Running for Something More — Matty and Nicola Take on London Marathon My Way

Two inspiring runners take on London Marathon My Way to raise awareness of TTP and support those affected.

On April 26th, as runners across the country take part in the TCS London Marathon My Way, two incredible supporters of TTPNetwork will be turning their miles into something truly meaningful.

Matty Jackson and Nicola McSorley Orford may have very different stories, but they are united by a shared goal: raising awareness of TTP and supporting those affected by it.

Matty’s Story — Running for Family

For Matty, this challenge is deeply personal.

His Dad lives with TTP — a rare and unpredictable condition that brings with it a constant sense of uncertainty. As Matty explains, it’s something that never fully goes away, always sitting quietly in the background.

“I’m incredibly proud of my Dad for the way he continues to fight it,” he says.

That pride is what drives him to take on this challenge. Running in Manchester, Matty is using every mile to raise awareness, start conversations, and support others who understand the reality of living with TTP.

He also wanted to recognise the care his Dad has received, sharing his thanks to the team at Liverpool Royal Hospital for the difference they’ve made to his family.

Nicola’s Story — Pushing Limits, Supporting Others

Nicola’s journey is one of determination, resilience, and a willingness to explore what’s possible.

A mum of three and proud nana, she has built an incredible endurance background — from kickboxing (earning a 2nd Dan black belt) to open water swimming, marathons, ultra-marathons, and full Ironman events.

Her journey began simply, running to save money when her children were young. Since then, it has taken her across extraordinary challenges and experiences.

“I’m nothing special — I just like to explore what is possible,” she says.

This year alone includes major endurance events, including an extreme race in Patagonia. The London Marathon My Way will be both a joyful run with friends and part of a much bigger year of pushing physical limits.

But at the heart of it is something simple: using her strength to support others.

Why This Matters

Every mile Matty and Nicola run carries a story — of family, resilience, and the decision to take action.

TTP is rare, complex, and often unseen by those not directly affected. Awareness grows through conversation, through shared experiences, and through people who are willing to step forward and make it visible.

How You Can Support

As April 26th approaches, there are simple ways to stand alongside them:

  • 💛 Donate if you can
  • 💛 Share their stories
  • 💛 Cheer them on from wherever you are

Every contribution helps TTPNetwork continue its vital work — supporting patients and families, raising awareness, and improving understanding of this life-threatening condition.

Matty, Nicola — thank you.
We wish you both an enjoyable and empowering run. However many miles you cover, you are already making a meaningful difference.
